In 1991 Ian and his then girlfriend Sascha (now wife) moved to Japan for one year to teach English.
They proved to be popular teachers and were asked to stay for longer at the end of each year.


In 1997 their friend Shannon gave her old Apple Mac LC3 to Ian as a gift as it was too big and heavy to take traveling. At that point the Internet was just starting but was quite advanced in Japan in some areas.
Ian took advantage of the computer gift and learned the Apple OS of the time.

Around this time Ian had written the book Edutainment How to Teach English With Fun and Games and sold it in bookstores around Japan.
However after about 6 months, the bookstores told Ian that the main publishers were upset with them for stocking a self-published book and told them to stop selling it. Ian was shocked but determined to continue even without bookstore support.

His brother Alan then suggested that he should sell them on the "Net".
Following are the first two websites that Ian built to sell the book and is useful for English teachers.
